Mod Vaude, short for Modern Vaudeville, is a modern circus cabaret and event production company specializing in immersive, high-end performances and events in Northern Colorado.
Our shows are designed to provide an escape from the noise of the world—a place where people can gather, laugh, be inspired, and experience something truly unique. We maintain a politically neutral, inclusive, and welcoming space, aiming to create classy, sexy, and emotionally resonant performances with just the right touch of humor.
At our core, we are driven by a commitment to uniqueness, quality, professionalism, creative expression, and partnership. We create cohesive, unforgettable productions while offering a platform for performers and crew to grow, stretch their creative limits, and take pride in what they help build.
Mod Vaude started with a question: What could we create if we gave ourselves room to really go for it?
In the winter of 2019, after completing our second year participating in a local community production known as Dance Theater, we—husband and wife team Josh and Emily Stein—felt something stirring. That experience introduced us to a vibrant, passionate group of performers, but it also highlighted a growing need: space for more advanced work, creative freedom, and the ability to take risks.
The Dance Theater community was supportive and family-friendly, but it had a defined tone and structure. We, along with several others, began to wonder—what might be possible if we stepped outside that box?
So we decided to build something new.
We gathered a small group of dedicated performers, committed to pushing artistic boundaries and seeing how far we could go with full creative control. No expectations. No safety net. Just a shared desire to create something different—and exceptional.
That idea became Mod Vaude.
Our first show, “The Premiere,” opened at Old Town Pub in September 2019. It was a one-night-only event—we had no idea if it would land. It sold out. Two months later, we returned with a revised version and a new cast, and just like that, Mod Vaude began to take off.
Then COVID hit. Like many, we paused. But when we came back, we came back with heart.
“A Beautiful Nightmare” started as a modest comeback performance, but it quickly transformed into something more: a raw and emotional journey through the trauma and healing experienced during the pandemic. That show became a turning point for us—a reminder of why we started and what our work could mean to both cast and audience.
Since then, Mod Vaude has continued to evolve. Each show is original and built from the ground up—new themes, new choreography, new costumes, new energy. We continue to raise the bar for ourselves, for our cast, and for what’s possible in small-scale performance.
Artistic Director & Lead Choreographer
Emily has been dancing since her early teens and brings over a decade of experience as a pole dance instructor. She’s the creative heartbeat of Mod Vaude, with an unmatched eye for choreography, costuming, visual design, and stage presence. Her love of movement is infectious—she lives for a perfectly placed ripple or a flawlessly timed hair flip.
Producer, Logistics Lead & Business Manager
Josh handles the backbone of every show: the planning, scheduling, building, budgeting, marketing, backstage flow—you name it. With a background in engineering and partner dancing (Lindy Hop and blues), he balances creative storytelling with practical execution. His motto: “Dream big, then figure out how to build it.”
Together, we’ve learned every piece of this business by doing it. We wear all the hats—sometimes at once—and wouldn’t have it any other way.
Originally launched as an in-person studio in Steamboat Springs, Studio Mod Vaude has now transitioned online to reach a wider audience. We offer digital classes and workshops in aerial, pole, burlesque, and dance—built for adult learners who want to move, grow, and reconnect with their bodies in bold new ways.
Mod Vaude is more than a show. It’s a community, a platform, and a creative revolution. With each performance, we aim to raise the bar for what small-town entertainment can be—thoughtful, professional, fiercely expressive, and full of heart.
Join us as we keep building, creating, and performing. The stage is set. The lights are on. And the best is yet to come.
